I was under the impression that in tulpamancy, you have control over things that you are aware of So if you're aware of a walk-in, you can decide not to accept them The only instance i've had of a seeming walk-in act like that was when james appeared, and i figured out he's not a tulpa because of how harmful he's been

I wouldn’t be surprised if they were hanging out with people that implanted unhealthy ideas that led to that (edited)

those things come from misunderstanding how tulpamancy works and tulpamancer disempowering themself

tulpamancy is heavily influenced by expectations and belief. If you think they’ll come back angry, they’ll probably come back angry. If you think they won’t come back, they probably won’t come back.

Testing to see if a random thoughtform is sentient is just putting time towards developing them. The more attention you give them, the more they'll develop, so if you don't want them just ignore them and don't hold on to any idea that they're somehow already full tulpas

They don’t, ever, by default. That’s the best mindset to have. The belief that a ‘walk in’ is not even real

Yeah that's why they're often called let-ins in this server

The more time you focus on it the more it’s going to act real because you are basically just forcing it

So it was never sentient in the beginning, you investigating it instead of ignoring it is what started sentience. You let it in by giving it attention

Plus if you already have vocal headmates, pretty much any thoughtform can become vocal the moment you talk to it

I can say hello to a lamp and my mind can create a realistic automatic response. Doesn’t make the lamp sentient

that lamp can also make up some stories like it being sentient for the last 5 years and being angry at you for all that time you ignored it

I think there can be some truth to those stories depending on the context but I mostly agree

I had an intrusive thoughtform one time that claimed it was "always there" which obviously wasn't true. It's just that I'd heard such a narrative before so the idea could spring up

something i wrote some time ago, related to the topic (doesn't seem so in the beginning but it is): Tulpas grow as people fastest when they are not kept just in their head with their host and are allowed to interact with other people, because as social creatures we use other people as mirrors to learn about ourselves. Making your own, separate experiences, also help with separation, and affirmation from other people makes it a truly magical experience. The trick is though that if you let your tulpa interact with other people, they are “personality forced” by other people as well, which might not be the best if those people are unstable, toxic or spread a lot of harmful misinformation. some tulpamancers suffer from their intrusive thoughts or jungian shadow getting manifested in a form of tulpa. Unfortunately, beside “personality forcing” is what I would call “system forcing” which is forming a set of beliefs about what tulpamancy is, what tulpas are, ethics regarding tulpas etc, a set of expectations about tulpamancy that later drive all the experience of Tulpamancy. And ”system forcing” can be done by other people you surround yourself with as well, and/or by guides you read. So, let’s say, a community “system forced” you to believe that tulpas are sentient independent beings equal to you, and that dissipation is murder. Your intrusive thought or shadow manifests itself as a tulpa, without a good support becomes the worst version of itself, builds a huge amount of independence and doesn’t want to go away, because it fears dissipation to death. From personal experience and experience of other people I know that it then gets incredibly hard to fix and work through, and it is an unnecessary self-inflicted problem.

If you've been around other tulpa servers and especially general plural servers you can see what happens when people feel morally obliged to accept every "walk-in." It can really take over their lives, can you imagine deciding to make one tulpa and ending up with dozens? Hundreds?

Is there anything u can do for a new-ish tulpa who is really embarressed and nervous to chat with anyone or experience stuff out of our headspace? Im not gonna pressure him into it or anything but i wonder if he might enjoy interacting with the world a lil- anyways just wasnt sure if ppl have had similar experiences? Hes like- developmentally 2 or 3 so i understand toddlers experience lots of big feelings as they grow
